SEPTEMBER 2025 WORKSHOP
GUY MADDIN

ABOUT THE ARTIST
FRUITS OF FRUSTRATION
DATES

Over a month-long virtual workshop in September, Guy Maddin will explore the problems and possibilities of his unique approach to cinema: How many directions are there? If the past is a bottleneck, is the future a paper cup?
Guy Maddin is a Canadian writer, visual artist, and filmmaker who has directed 12 feature-length films, including The Green Fog (2018), The Forbidden Room (2015), My Winnipeg (2007), and The Saddest Music in the World (2003), as well as innumerable shorts. His films have appeared at the Cannes, Venice, Berlin, TIFF, and Sundance film festivals among many others.
Workshop meetings include:

-
Sunday Artist Talks: Guy will meet with participants for four consecutive Sundays (September 7, 14, 21, 28) from 1 to 2:30 PM Eastern Daylight Time. At the end of each talk/Q&A, Guy will propose an "exercise" for the week.

-
Saturday Commons: Participants will meet for the three intervening Saturdays (September 13, 20, 27) at 10-11 AM, 2-3 PM, or 8-9 PM (EDT) in small groups to share and discuss their work, frustrations, reflections, and experience completing the exercises. Participants choose from one of the three sessions--they do not need to sign-up, and they can change time slots each week.
COST
Guy's workshop costs $165 US. Participants living outside Canada, the United States, and Europe may be eligible for equity memberships, which are designed to ensure workshops are affordable for all participants regardless of where you live. Email us for more information.
